What does it mean when I see an “All Gender Restroom” sign?
If you see an “All Gender Restroom” sign, it means the restroom is a single-stall restroom that is for use by anyone on campus, across gender identity, and can be locked to prevent anyone else from entering. Some of these restrooms also have a changing station for individuals caring for infants and children. The presence of a changing station is denoted by an additional sign.

What does the “All Gender Restroom” sign look like?
You may see either of the signs below to denote a restroom is a single-stall restroom available for use by anyone on campus.

Will every restroom on campus be changing to this new signage?
No, only single-use restrooms will have the new “All Gender Restroom” signage.  No multi-stall, gender-specific restrooms are changing.

Why did the University make this change?
The University is committed to supporting diversity and inclusion and wants all members of our community to feel safe and welcomed on campus across gender identity. These signs are an extension of that commitment.

Do any other universities in the UNC System have “All Gender” or gender-neutral restrooms?
Yes, other universities in the System have installed similar signage on select restrooms, including UNC Chapel Hill and NC State University.

Where are the “All Gender Restrooms” located?
This information will be available when the installation is complete.
